This is a souvenir ribbon for the launching of the USS Pomodon (SS-486) from the Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard. The Pomodon was launched on June 12, 1945, and after serving in Korea, suffered an explosion caused from an excess of hydrogen gas in which five crew members died. Pomodon was scrapped in 1972, after over a quarter century of service.
VINTAGE:Circa World War II.
SIZE:Approximately 5-3/8 in height and 2-1/4" in width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Printed fuschia silk.

CONDITION:7- (Very Fine-): The ribbon has minimal wear with one chewed are a along the edge which goes into the ribbon about 3/8".
