ARTIFACT: This is a souvenir ribbon for the launching of the USS Sculpin (SS-191) from the Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard on July 27, 1938. The Sculpin was sunk in 1944, and tragically some of her surviving crew was plucked from the sea by the Japanese and transported to an aircraft carrier that was subsequently sunk by the USS Sailfish. Cruelly, many of the USS Sculpin's crew had participated in a rescue party a few years before for the very same ship (namely the Sailfish aka Squalus) that would unknowingly cause their death.

VINTAGE: Circa World War II.

SIZE: Approximately 5-9/16 in height and 2-1/4" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Printed red silk.

ATTACHMENT: N/A.

MARKINGS: N/A.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a United States Navy collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. LFJX3/11 SEJX05/20

CONDITION: 9 (Excellent-Near Mint): The ribbon has very minor storage wear.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
