Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a souvenir ribbon for the launching of the USS Sculpin (SS-191) from the Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard on July 27, 193The Sculpin was sunk in 1944, and tragically some of her surviving crew was plucked from the sea by the Japanese and transported to an aircraft carrier that was subsequently sunk by the USS Sailfish. Cruelly, many of the USS Sculpin's crew had participated in a rescue party a few years before for the very same ship (namely the Sailfish aka Squalus) that would unknowingly cause their death.

VINTAGE:

Circa World War II.

SIZE:

Approximately 5-9/16 in height and 2-1/4" in width.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Printed red silk.
