ARTIFACT: This is a distinctive insignia in plastic for the 23rd Regiment of the New York State Guard. The DI is a crest with a cross bearing the number 23 and the word VIGILANTIA and reads FIDELIS ET CONSTANS (always faithful and constant) at bottom. Many state-side units had these DIs made of plastic to save essential materials such as brass for the war effort.

VINTAGE: Circa World War II era.

SIZE: 1-3/16" height and 1-1/8" width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Plastic.

ATTACHMENT: Vertical safety-style pin
