ARTIFACT:

This is a 1930s distinctive insignia for the United States 20th Engineer Battalion by Dondero. The DI is a silver and res striped crest bearing a fleur-de-lis and reads CONDITERE ET PUGNATI (build and fight). The motto was corrected decades later to read CONDITE ET PUGNATE.

VINTAGE:

Circa 1930s.

SIZE:

Approximately 1-1/8" in height and 1" in width.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Plated brass with enamel.

ATTACHMENT:

Vertical pin with come-under locking swivel catch.

MARKINGS:

A.H. DONDERO INC. WASH. D.C.

CONDITION:

7 (Very Fine): The DI shows some light to medium wear and tarnish with a few small spots of discoloration.
