Description
This is a circa 1930s hat badge for Panama Steamship Line. The Panama line was founded by President Theodore Roosevelt to coincide with the creation of the Panama Canal. It was operated by the United States Army and War Department until President Eisenhower ceded its route to Grace Steamship Line in 1960. The badge has great gold bullion details and a swallowtail pennant at center bearing a capital P.
VINTAGE:Circa 1930s.
SIZE:Approximately 3-5/8" in height and 4-3/8" in width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Wool embroidered in bullion threads, gilt brass with enamel, elasticized cotton band, partial cloth backing.
ATTACHMENT:Partial band; single screw post with disc backing.
