Description
This is a circa 1870s or 1880s Long Island City (Queens), New York Fire Department Astoria Engine No. 1 badge. Organized in 1870, Astoria Engine Company No. 1 was the first volunteer company in that Queens neighborhood. The badge is numbered 1 at the very bottom. The center of the badge shows an engine in relief and two arms of the cross bear firefighting equipment.
VINTAGE:Circa 1870s-1880s.
SIZE:Approximately 2-1/4" in height and 2-1/4" in width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Nickel-plated brass.
ATTACHMENT:Vertical kick pin with C catch.
MARKINGS:1 on front.
