ARTIFACT:

This is a souvenir ashtray made of salvaged, nickel plated brass from the United States Navy's USS Squalus SS-19The Squalus was launched from Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard on September 14th, 1938 and sunk off Rye, NH on May 23, 1939 during a test dive. A rescue effort on May 24-25 saved 33 crewmen. The ship was then decommissioned that November and recommissioned as the USS Sailfish SS-192.

VINTAGE:

Circa World War II.

SIZE:

Approximately 5-9/16" height and 5-9/16" width and 13/16" thickness.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Nickel plated brass.
