This is a German-made distinctive insignia for the United States Army 78th "Lightning" Division. The DI is a red trapezoid with a gladiator-like Mars wielding a lightning bolt, and reads AUDACITER (audaciously), the division's motto.
VINTAGE:Circa World War II.
SIZE:1" height and 1-1/4" width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Gold-plated brass with red and white enamel.
ATTACHMENT:Single screw post with disc backing.

CONDITION:7+ (Very Fine+): DI shows some light wear and discoloration along edge and all enamel is intact.
