Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a World War II distinctive insignia for the United States Army 309th Infantry Regiment by Robbins. The DI is a very colorful crest bearing a lightning bolt across a sun, three crosses representing battle awards and a mermaid to represent the unit's home: the New Jersey shore. The DI reads ESSE QUAM VIDERI (To be rather than to seem).

VINTAGE:

Circa World War II.

SIZE:

Approximately 1-1/8" in height and 1-1/16" in width.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Plated brass with enameled areas.

ATTACHMENT:

Vertical pin with come-under locking swivel catch.

MARKINGS:

ROBBINS CO. ATTLEBORO.

ITEM NOTES:

CONDITION:

7+ (Very Fine+): The DI shows some very small scattered spots of wear and tarnish, and the enamel is all intact.
