Description
This is a World War II launch tag for the launching of the USS Sand Lance (SS-381) from the Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard on June 25, 194Sand Lance received five battle stars for her World War II service and a Presidential Unit Citation for her maiden voyage alone. On her first war patrol she sank three enemy vessels despite traveling through two typhoons and suffering some ice damage to her equipment. Soon after she realized she was surrounded by Japanese and fended all eight assailants off with her six remaining torpedoes and some swift maneuvering.

SIZE:Approximately 2-1/16 in height (excluding 3-5/8" of string) and 1-3/4" in width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Foiled card stock with silk string.
