ARTIFACT:

This is a World War II submarine launch ribbon for the USS Sennet SS-408, launched on June 6, 1944 at Portsmouth (NH) Naval Shipyard. The Sennet was sent off my Mrs. Roscoe W. Downs, the first woman in New Hampshire to have five sons enlisted in the armed services. Happily, all five of the Downs boys made it home from the war. Sennett received four battle stars for her World War II service.

VINTAGE:

Circa 1944.

SIZE:

Approximately 2-1/4 in width and 5-1/4" in length.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Printed silk.
