Description
This is a World War II distinctive insignia for the United States Army 240th Coast Artillery Harbor Defense (now 240th Regiment), under the Maine National Guard. The DI shows a phoenix, part of the crest of the city of Portland, Maine, and a portcullis. It reads SEMPER PRIMUS ET FIDELIS (always first and faithful).
VINTAGE:Circa World War II.
SIZE:Approximately 1" in height x 7/8" in width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Plated brass with enamel.
ATTACHMENT:Vertical pin with come-under locking catch.
MARKINGS:N.S. MEYER NEW YORK, engraved shield mark.

CONDITION:4 (Very Good - ): The DI shows some moderate wear and crazing to the enamel. Chip out of enamel at center.
