Description
This is a Civil War era United States Army Cavalry saber by Kirschbaum. The sword comes in its original scabbard. The branch joining the guard with the pommel is in an openwork cobra hood style, and the guard has some letters engraved on it. The grip is in leather with brass wire wrapping. The blade is fullered on both sides and is untouched.
VINTAGE:Circa Civil War.
SIZE:Approximately 4-7/8" in width (at guard, front to back); blade only: 34-1/2" in length (including ricasso, measured in a straight line) and 1-1/8" in width; scabbard only: approximately 35-7/8" in length (measured in a straight line) and 1-1/2" in width (at tip); about 41-1/4" total length (while in scabbard).
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Steel blade, brass, leather and brass wire-wrapped guard, steel scabbard.
ATTACHMENT:Rings on scabbard.
MARKINGS:"CJI" and "A" 22 on guard; Cartouche "(IRON) PROOF" mark and "(K) & C" Cartouche maker mark on blade.
