Description
This is a rare 1917 dated United States Cavalry saddle girth from Rock Island Arsenal. Now a national historic landmark, Rock Island Arsenal on the Mississippi River between Iowa and Illinois is America's largest government-owned manufacturer of weaponry. The girth has two leather ends with a rope bridge in between, and would have been worn to help stabilize a saddle.
VINTAGE:Circa 1917 (World War I).
SIZE:Approximately 6-1/2" in diameter (each side) and 21" in length.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Leather, rope, metal rings.
ATTACHMENT:Rope bridge.
