ARTIFACT:

Rare circa 1917 American Field Service Camion (Transport) Driver First Type hat badge. This example was made in France and shows a US Shield with stars and stripes and is topped with an eagle head and wings. The bottom shows a scroll or banner that reads: "SERVICE AUX ARMÉES" in raised lettering. The members of the American Field Service were volunteer ambulance drivers who rescued wounded soldiers in different overseas regions.
