ARTIFACT: This is a rare circa 1916 American Field Service (AFS) ambulance driver's hat badge. Organized during World War I, the American Field Service was a volunteer humanitarian effort providing transport, hospital services and manpower in the form of drivers. The badge has a pair of intricately detailed wings flanking a central square. The badge reads AMERICAN AMBULANCE FRANCE with a cross in relief at its center. It has a great coppery patina.

VINTAGE: Circa 1916.

SIZE: Approximately 7/8" in height and 3-13/16" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Brass.

ATTACHMENT: Single screw post with disc backing, brad.

MARKINGS: None.

CONDITION: 7 (Very Fine): The badge shows some medium wear and one brad is missing.
