This is a World War I St. John Ambulance Association ambulance driver hat badge Type The type I version has the Rd. ("Registered") number on the front, just below the Maltese Cross. The British organization has links to the age-old Order of St. John.
VINTAGE:Circa World War I.
SIZE:Approximately 1-7/8" in diameter.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Plated brass.
ATTACHMENT:Two loops with cotter pin.
MARKINGS:Rd. 111901.
