Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a rare and beautiful 1940s stewardess hat badge for Western Air Lines in sterling silver. Western began in 1926 as Western Air Express and merged with Transcontinental to become TWA in 1930. At this time, a portion of the company called Western Air Transport broke away, eventually becoming General Airlines and later WAL (then simply Western Airlines). The badge is a Native American man's head with WAL on his headdress band and fantastically detailed feathers flowing out behind.
