Description
Rare, 1938 USS Squalus launching celluloid badge (SS-192). The Squalus was launched from Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard on September 14th, 1938 and sunk off Rye, NH on May 23, 1939 during a test dive. A rescue effort on May 24-25 saved 33 crewmen. The ship was raised and towed to Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in September 1939, decommissioned that November, and then re-commissioned as the USS Sailfish (SS-192).
