Description
This is a circa World War II Iron Cross First Class made by Alois Rettenmaier. The medal has an iron core with a silver-plated frame. The decoration was first created in 1813 by the King of Prussia, Friedrich Wilhelm III. The cross is nicely vaulted and has no maker marks. It shows a swastika at its center and reads 1939 below. In addition to the L59 Rettenmaier mark, there is also a double-stamped "S" made by a patriotic employee forming a swastika!

SIZE:Approximately 1-3/4" in height and 1-3/4" in width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Iron, silver-plated frame.
ATTACHMENT:Vertical T-style "Coke bottle" pin with C catch.
MARKINGS:S (swastika) and L59 (Rettenmaier maker mark) on reverse.
