ARTIFACT: This is a circa World War II Iron Cross First Class made by Alois Rettenmaier. The medal has an iron core with a silver-plated frame. The decoration was first created in 1813 by the King of Prussia, Friedrich Wilhelm III. The cross is nicely vaulted and has no maker marks. It shows a swastika at its center and reads 1939 below. In addition to the L59 Rettenmaier mark, there is also a double-stamped "S" made by a patriotic employee forming a swastika!

VINTAGE: Circa World War II.

SIZE: Approximately 1-3/4" in height and 1-3/4" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Iron, silver-plated frame.

ATTACHMENT: Vertical T-style "Coke bottle" pin with C catch.

MARKINGS: S (swastika) and L59 (Rettenmaier maker mark) on reverse.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a WWII Nazi Germany medal collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. CON-JST-20-14 LCEJX1/14 SBHGX6/14

CONDITION: 8- (Very Fine-Excellent): The medal has some light wear and tarnish only.
