This is a nice "been there" German Iron Cross 1st class by Alois Rettenmeyer, maker L5The Iron Cross was reinstituted by Hitler, it having originally been a Prussian decoration. It was conferred for bravery in action and other meritorious military acts, and the 1st class version does not hang by a ribbon like the 2nd class version.
VINTAGE:Circa World War II.
SIZE:Approximately 1-3/4" height and 1-3/4" width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Plated brass or tombak, steel center.
ATTACHMENT:Vertical T-style pin with C catch.
MARKINGS:L59.
