ARTIFACT: This is a nice "been there" German Iron Cross 1st class by Alois Rettenmeyer, maker L59. The Iron Cross was reinstituted by Hitler, it having originally been a Prussian decoration. It was conferred for bravery in action and other meritorious military acts, and the 1st class version does not hang by a ribbon like the 2nd class version.

VINTAGE: Circa World War II.

SIZE: Approximately 1-3/4" height and 1-3/4" width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Plated brass or tombak, steel center.

ATTACHMENT: Vertical T-style pin with C catch.

MARKINGS: L59.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a Nazi Germany collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VAJJX11 LDDEX2/11 SDJJX3/11

CONDITION: 8- (Very Fine-Excellent): The medal shows some light wear and tarnish.
