ARTIFACT:
This is a pair of named French-made World War I United States Air Service (USAS) pilot tunics. One has a bullion wing: the other had a wing, but it was removed. The tunic with the wing has one set of "US" collar insignia, two single bars at the shoulders and an "A. Pepin" of Tours manufacturer label with 1918 and the owners name written on it. The other tunic was made by Buisson et Delorme of Paris. Both are named to a Cadet LeRoy. There are no size labels (please see measurements below).
VINTAGE:
Circa World War I (1918 written on label).
SIZE:
No size tags. Wing: 3-3/8" by 1-3/16". Tunic with wing: approximately 18" from armpit to armpit; 26-1/2" length from collar to hem (on reverse); 24" from shoulder seam to cuff; 16-1/2" between shoulders. Tunic without wing: approximately 18" from armpit to armpit; 27-1/2" length from collar to hem (on reverse); 23-1/2" from shoulder seam to cuff; 16-1/2" between shoulders.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Tunics: wool, cotton twill, brass buttons, resin buttons and metal snaps; wing: wool embroidered in bullion thread; insignia: bronze/brass.
ATTACHMENT:
Tunic with wing: buttons, rivets inside collar, three hook and eyes at throat, belt clip inside waist; tunic without wing: buttons, buttons and snaps on outer pockets, buttons on inside pockets, three hook and eyes at throat, belt clip inside waist, two clips on reverse at waist.
MARKINGS:
Tunic with wing: "A. Pepin" of Tours maker label in interior pocket, with "Cadet CGC (or CGL?) LeRoy 21-2-1918 17766" written on it; tunic without wing: Buisson et Delorme Paris label and Buisson et Delorme tag dated 1918 with "Le Roy".

CONDITION:
7- (Very Fine-): The tunics are overall in fine condition, the one with the wing having some minor mothing, a hole at right armpit and oxidation to the wing; tunic without wing: hole at left armpit, hole inside collar, some small scattered mothing. some wear to lining.
