ARTIFACT: This is a rare circa mid-late 1930s Romanian Air Force officer sword with a very cool King Carol II cypher. The sword comes in its original leather scabbard with beautifully engraved copper-plated bands bearing winged propellers. The end of the scabbard is capped in a similarly handsome fashion. The grip is celluloid wrapped in brass wire and the pommel is a fantastic eagle's head with red eyes. The guard is ornate. The blade is bright and bears the cypher of King Carol, who II ruled Romania from 1930 until 1940, when he went into exile in Mexico, and later, Portugal. The blade also shows a central winged propeller, as well as the word Solingen. The sword was made by German maker Carl Eichorn.

VINTAGE: Circa mid-late 1930s.

SIZE: Approximately 5-1/4" in width (at guard); blade only: 25-1/4" in length (including ricasso) and 15/16" in width; scabbard only: approximately 26-5/8" in length and 1-3/8" in width (at tip); about 31-3/4" total length (while in scabbard).

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Etched steel blade, gilt brass, celluloid grip wrapped in brass wire, glass; leather scabbard with copper-plated brass.

ATTACHMENT: Rings on scabbard.

MARKINGS: Carl Eichorn Solingen (squirrel maker mark).

ITEM NOTES: This is from a pre-WWII Romanian Air Force weapons collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. CON-DMM-25-13 LABIEX11/13 SABIEX4/14

CONDITION: 7+ (Very Fine+ Overall): The sword shows little wear; the scabbard is very delicate has one spot where it is very worn through (though still attached).

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
