Description
This is an extremely rare deluxe model of the Bulgarian Air Force Officer Pilot dagger. The blade was produced in Germany by the firm of Carl Eickhorn. The blade has a blued (bluing mostly worn away) panel that states in Bulgarian "For God and Country". The pilot apparently had his pilot # stamped into the blade: 1244, evidence of the hand stamping shows on the reverse where the Eichorn maker mark has been slightly marred from the pressure. The rotary engine on the guard is separately applied in silver, and the eagle's head pommel has red glass eyes. At the base of the scabbard the eagle's claw is clutching an enameled globe; sadly most of the enameling has chipped away here with only a small portion remaining. This is a truly rare dagger with reports of there being perhaps as many as 50 produced, or as few as 20.
