ARTIFACT:
This is a Model 1816 United States socket bayonet with a scarce scabbard. This type of bayonet was manufactured to be used with the .69 calibre flintlock musket model of the same year. This model was produced for just over two decades beginning in 1818 and had a distinctive point like no other bayonet up until then or since. The bayonet looks to have an inspectors' mark in the location of the earlier vintage bayoneton the neck.
