Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a circa late 1960s jacket patch for the United States Air Force 53rd Fighter Squadron. Stationed at Bitburg AFB, Germany beginning in the Korean War period, the 53rd was the first USAFE (US Air Forces in Europe) wing to fly a supersonic jet: namely, the North American F-100 Super Sabre). The patch is German-made and embroidered upon blue cotton and shows a well-dressed tiger at center.

VINTAGE:

Circa late 1960s.

SIZE:

Approximately 4-3/8" in height and 4-1/8" in width.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Cotton embroidered in cotton/silk/polyester threads.

MARKINGS:

53RD FTR handwritten on reverse.
