This is a Japanese-made jacket patch for the United States Navy USS N. K. Perry DD-883, a destroyer. The patch shows a coat of arms in red and blue bearing a double-headed eagle and a pair of half-horse half-seahorse creatures. The patch also shows the motto PACEM ET BELLUM GERENS VIGILANS (in peace and war always vigilant).
VINTAGE:Circa late 1950s.
SIZE:5-1/2" height and 5-1/16" width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Fully-embroidered in cotton/silk/polyester threads with mesh backing.
