ARTIFACT: This is a submarine patch for the USS Darter (SS-576). The Darter was launched at Groton, Connecticut on May 28, 1956. She was named for the USS Darter SS-227, a ship that was wrecked without loss of life during World War II. She was decommissioned in 1989. The patch is embroidered with the ship's motto: RENATUS (born again).

VINTAGE: Circa late 1950s.

SIZE: Approximately 3-13/16" in diameter.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Fully embroidered in cotton/polyester threads.

ATTACHMENT: None.

CONDITION: 8- (Very Fine-Excellent): The patch shows some light wear only.
