ARTIFACT:

What we have here is an Iconic, Large, and Beautiful WWI US Air Service USAS Pilot Wing (ask Military Aviator Badge) by Homrighous of Memphis Tennessee with its original woven wool wrapped Silver backing plate.

The wing was made in the usual 3 piece construction, with 2 hoops on either side of the central shield, attaching it to the accompanying wings. All pieces are intricately hand engraved and chased. The central shield sports the boldly cut 14K gold letters US.

Often missing, this wings still retains its original backing plate of dark blue woven wool, wrapped around a sheet silver plate.

Unfortunately the identity of the original wearer has been lost to time during the century+ that this wing has been in existence, but it still would be a centerpiece of any US WWI Aviation Collection.

Approximately 3/4" in height x 3-3/4" in width.

Silver & 14K Gold with wool backing clothe.

Horizontal pin with drop-in locking catch.

CONDITION:

9-:(Excellent+): wing is in superb condition with only the lightest of wear, mostly noticeable on the mirror finish of the US at center. As is so often the case, the very tips of the cloth wrapped backing plate have worn through, but this is barely noticeable and does not detract.
