ARTIFACT:

This is a stunning Time Capsule WWI Pilot Wing (aka Military Aviator / Junior Military Aviator Badge) in the Iconic form manufactured by Robbins Company of Attleboro, Massachusetts.

And, it DOES have the company's Iconic "Touch Mark" Maker Mark, along with the words STERLING TOP on the reverse.

This is the iconic WWI US Air Service Junior Military Aviator Wing worn by future General and Commander of the Flying Tigers, Claire Chennault, in his WWI Pilot Graduation Photograph.

This example of the wing is exceptional in its state of original condition. The wing appears to be UNPOLISHED, retains nearly all of its original finish (this example was NOT lacquered) , and, all of the lovely hand-chasing, and the mirror-finished US show NO signs of polish and only the lightest traces of wear. The US itself is made of ROSE Gold, which is the case in perhaps only 10% or less of these iconic wings. The original wool felt backing is also present, although ever so slightly misshapen from the century+ that has passed since the wing's manufacture.

This was no jewelry box piece, the wing, and especially the screwbacks and backings, show signs that this wing was worn. Just, thankfully, the original owner, nor any owners since, decided to take the polishing cloth to this example, so it is nearly Mint. Sadly, the ID of the original wearer has been lost to history.

Approximately: 31/32" in height x 3-3/16" in length.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Sterling Silver Wing Body, nickel screw posts, brass screwbacks, wool backing, and the US itself is made of ROSE Gold.

ATTACHMENT:

Two screw posts with disc backing.

CONDITION:

10- (Near Mint): The wing is in minty condition. This was no jewelry box piece, the wing, and especially the screwbacks and backings, show signs that this wing was worn. Just, thankfully, the original owner, nor any owners since, decided to take the polishing cloth to this example, so it is nearly Mint. Sadly, the ID of the original wearer has been lost to history.
