ARTIFACT:
Gorgeous late 1940's United States Army 11th Airborne Division shoulder patch. This example is in bullion and quilted silk, Japanese-made during the Japanese Occupation Period. The center of the patch shows a winged, bullion and red embroidered disc and shows the number: "11" and along the top it reads: "AIRBORNE" in bullion, all against a background of blue quilted silk. The outer edge is black silk and the reverse is backed with paper. After the Japanese surrender, the 11th Airborne Division was tasked with leading American forces during the Occupation. The 11th was stationed in Okinawa for some time before being transferred to the Atsugi Airfield, just outside of Yokohama and tasked with securing the surrounding area by driving out civilians and remaining Japanese military forces. This shoulder patch came along with 511th Airborne Jump Wings and Ovals, see links below.

CONDITION:
8+ (Excellent): The shoulder patch shows minor to moderate wear and light soiling, two small holes in the black edging, the reverse shows light age wear, the bullion shows nice patina, overall excellent condition.
