Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a fabulous Grand Army of the Republic marker with flag holder and maker's mark from the late 1800s. The marker is topped by a five-pointed star with insignia and the flag holder is in the shape of a cannon. The reverse displays an interesting design of all the Army Corps symbols radiating out from a crest with stars and stripes.

VINTAGE:

Circa 1880s-1890s.

SIZE:

Approximately 21-1/2" length and 10-1/2" width.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Cast iron.

ATTACHMENT:

Posts with staked ends.

MARKINGS:

HENRY F. JENKS, PAWTUCKET R.I. on front; PATENTED 1889 (?) on reverse.

CONDITION:

7- (Very Fine-): Marker has a weathered but stately appearance and there are some small chinks out of the bottom of the posts.
