Description
This is a wonderful early 20th century reporter/fire lines badge from The Milwaukee Sentinel newspaper of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Journal-Sentinel (the name changed from the original Sentinel) is the largest Wisconsin newspaper and was once part of the William Randolph Hearst empire. This type of badge, known as a "fire line" badge, functioned as a press pass at fire scenes. It is in lovely cobalt blue enamel and shaped like a Maltese Cross, and is numbered 349.
VINTAGE:Circa early 1900s.
SIZE:Approximately 1-3/4" in height and 1-3/4" in width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Copper-plated brass with enamel, painted lettering.
ATTACHMENT:Vertical safety-style pin with oval saddle.
MARKINGS:None.

CONDITION:7- (Very Fine-): The badge has a small piece of enamel missing and a few bits of the painted lettering have worn away.
