Beautiful WWII German Mother's Cross (Mutterkreuz) 1st Class in Gold for 8 or More Children

This is a German Mother's Cross (Mutterkreuz), 1st Class Order, Gold Cross. The Mother's Cross, formally known as the Ehrenkreuz der Deutschen Mutter (Cross of Honour of the German Mother) was instituted on December 16, 1938, and given out starting the next year through May 194It was awarded to mothers of at least four well-bred children who would grow up and render service to the Fatherland. The gold version was given for many offspring: this medal was awarded for rearing eight or more eligible children.

Circa World War II.

Medal: approximately 1-5/8" in height and 1-3/8" in width; ribbon: approximately 17".

Gilt brass, silk.

Suspension loop, ribbon.
