Beautiful Miniature WWII German Mother's Cross (Mutterkreuz), 1st Class in Gold with Bow

ARTIFACT: This is a beautiful miniature German Mother's Cross (Mutterkreuz), 1st Class Order in gold with a bow. The Mother's Cross, formally known as the Ehrenkreuz der Deutschen Mutter (Cross of Honour of the German Mother) was instituted on December 16, 1938, and given out starting the next year through May 1945. It was awarded to mothers of at least four well-bred children who would grow up and render service to the Fatherland. The gold version was given for many offspring: this medal was awarded for rearing eight or more eligible children. It is in enameled gilt brass and hangs from a silk ribbon.

VINTAGE: Circa 1939-1945 (World War II).

SIZE: Approximately 1-1/8” in height and 1-7/8” in width.

CONSTRUCTION/MATERIALS: Gilt brass, enamel, silk ribbon.

ATTACHMENT: Horizontal safety-style pin with saddle, sewn onto ribbon.

MARKINGS: 16 Dezember 1938 L/53.
