ARTIFACT:
This is a beautiful example of a World War II Japanese Order of the Rising Sun, 4th Class. The Order was established in 1875 and is second only in prestige to the Order of the Chrysanthemum. This decoration is in heavy enameled silver on a silk ribbon. The medal is a beautiful sunburst with a red center hanging from a cluster of leaves and purple flowers, and the reverse has some Japanese characters on the leaves. The medal comes in its original lacquered wooden case and is accompanied by a lapel rosette.

Circa World War II.
SIZE:
Medal: approximately 4-1/16" in height and 1-13/16" in width.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Heavy enameled silver, silk ribbon, lacquered wooden case with velvet lining.
ATTACHMENT:
Clip, suspension ring, ribbon; rosette: stud; case: hinged.
MARKINGS:
Characters on top of case.
