ARTIFACT:
This is a beautiful old Civil War member medal of the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States (MOLLUS) in 14 karat gold. The MOLLUS organization formed in 1865 after the assassination of President Lincoln to pledge renewed loyalty to the Union and thwart any attempts to overthrow the Federal government. The medal shows the eagle with arrows and olive branch and reads LEX REGIT ARMA TUENTUR on front and the back reads M. O. LOYAL LEGION U. S. MDCCCLXV. It is numbered 14392 on the reverse of the hook above the medallion.

Circa 1880s.
SIZE:
Approximately 2-7/8" in height and 1-1/2" in width.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
14 karat gold, enamel, silk.
ATTACHMENT:
Suspension ring, ribbon, T-style pin on bar with tongue-style catch.
