ARTIFACT:
This is an old descendant medal of the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States (MOLLUS) in 14 karat gold (.3100). The MOLLUS organization formed in 1865 after the assassination of President Lincoln to pledge renewed loyalty to the Union and thwart any attempts to overthrow the Federal government. The medal shows the eagle with arrows and olive branch and reads LEX REGIT ARMA TUENTUR on front and the back reads M. O. LOYAL LEGION U. S. MDCCCLXV.
VINTAGE:
Circa pre-World War I.
SIZE:
Medallion has 1-7/8" height and 1-1/4" width and the length of each side of the ribbon from end to end is 22-1/2".
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
14 karat gold and enamel with silk ribbon and string.
ATTACHMENT:
Gold link loops connecting medallion to ribbon.
