Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a 1973 lighter for the United States Navy ship USS Ranger CVA-61, presented by the Commanding Officer. Launched during the Cold War on September 29, 1956, Ranger was the first supercarrier to have angled decks from her inception. 1973, the year this lighter was presented was a year of change for Ranger: January saw the cease-fire of bombing in Vietnam, and she returned to Alameda in August of that year. There were two COs active during 1973: Captain Hank P. Glindeman Jr. and Captain Arthur E. Hill. The lighter has painted details on front and back.

Circa 1973.

SIZE:

Approximately 2-1/4" height and 1-1/2" width and 1/2" in thickness.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Chrome-plated brass, painted details.

ATTACHMENT:

Hinge.

MARKINGS:

ZIPPO BRADFORD PA ยจ on bottom.

CONDITION:

7 (Very Fine): The lighter has some moderate wear/abrasions but the paint is in excellent shape.
