ARTIFACT: This is a circa 1960 United States Navy ship lighter for the USS Swordfish SSN-579, launched August 27, 1957 from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (Portsmouth, NH/Kittery, ME). The lighter was made by Penguin of Japan. It has an applied enamel medallion on the front with the ship motto "Audaces Fortuna Juvat" (Fortune favors the bold). The reverse has small brass officer's dolphins.

VINTAGE: Circa 1960.

SIZE: Approximately 2-1/4" in height and 1-1/2" in width and 1/2" in thickness.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Chrome-plated brass, brass, enamel.

ATTACHMENT: Hinge.

MARKINGS: HIGH QUALITY LIGHTER "PENGUIN" NO. 19531 JAPAN on bottom.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a 1960s US Navy ship lighter collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. MBEX14 LAAEX5/14 SeVAEJX03/19

CONDITION: 8- (Very Fine-Excellent): The lighter has only some light wear.
