1960 USN Ship USS Swordfish SSN-579 Double-Sided Lighter with Officers Dolphins by Penguin

This is a circa 1960 United States Navy ship lighter for the USS Swordfish SSN-579, launched August 27, 1957 from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (Portsmouth, NH/Kittery, ME). The lighter was made by Penguin of Japan. It has an applied enamel medallion on the front with the ship motto "Audaces Fortuna Juvat" (Fortune favors the bold). The reverse has small brass officer's dolphins.

Circa 1960.

Approximately 2-1/4" in height and 1-1/2" in width and 1/2" in thickness.

Chrome-plated brass, brass, enamel.

Hinge.
