This is a 1950s distinctive insignia for the United States 498th Engineer Battalion by Meyer. The DI shows a battleaxe and some red pennants bearing various symbols and reads PRAEPARA ET DEFENDE (prepare and defend).
VINTAGE:Circa 1950s.
SIZE:Approximately 1-1/8" in height and 1-1/8" in width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Plated brass with enamel.
ATTACHMENT:Vertical pin with come-under locking swivel catch.
MARKINGS:N.S. MEYER INC. NEW YORK, maker mark, 9M in crest.

CONDITION:8- (Very Fine-Excellent): The DI has a few small spots of light wear and tarnish.
