1942 USS Shad SS-235 Launching Souvenir from Portsmouth Naval Shipyard

This is a handmade 1942 launching souvenir for the USS Shad from Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. The souvenir is shaped like a cross-section of a life preserver with a printed submarine scene at center beneath glass. U.S.S. SHAD 235 PORTSMOUTH is painted on the preserver and four ribbons secure a rope border to the piece.

Circa 1942.

5-1/8" diameter and 1/2" thickness.

Painted, cloth-covered wood with silk ribbon, glass, printed paper, rope, and paper backing.

8- (Very Fine-Excellent): Souvenir has a few small spots of light wear and some small bits of paint have loosened and are under the glass.
