ARTIFACT: Great WWII U.S.S. Flying Fish (SS-229) submarine launching model from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Monel, complete with periscope! The base reads: "U.S.S. FLYING FISH N.Y. PORTSMOUTH, N.H." The Flying Fish was responsible for sinking nearly 60,000 tons of Japanese shipping and by the end of the war, the USS Flying Fish was a highly decorated sub - among the awards received was the Asiatic - Pacific Campaign Medal with 12 battle stars for each patrol during WWII.

VINTAGE: Circa WWII.

SIZE: Approximately 7-1/4" x 1/2" x 2-1/4" in height.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Monel.

ATTACHMENT: Base secured with screw.

MARKINGS: None.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a USN Submarine collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VGEX16 LBDEX6/16 SBEEX02/20

CONDITION: 8- (Very Fine&emdash;Excellent): The model shows minor to moderate wear, overall very fine condition.
