Description
This is a first edition (1931) copy of the "U.S.S. Akron World's Largest Airship: Complete Pictures and Story of the DockÉ ShipÉ AirportÉ and "Lighter-than-Air-Center" of the World". Built by the Goodyear-Zeppelin Company, the United States Navy USS Akron (ZRS-4) was the largest airship ever made in the United States up to that point. The Akron had several accidents and a coast-to-coast voyage before she went down in bad weather on April 4, 1933 off New Jersey, killing all but three souls on board. This booklet has a fantastic Deco cover and many terrific photographs of the construction of the ship. The newspaper spread is huge and in excellent condition.
