Description
Very rare, 1929 USS Akron (Goodyear Zeppelin) ring laying ceremony commemorative medal from October 31, 1929 in Akron, Ohio. Built by the Goodyear-Zeppelin Company, the United States Navy USS Akron (ZRS-4) was the largest airship ever made in the United States up to that point. The Akron had several accidents and a coast-to-coast voyage before she went down in bad weather on April 4, 1933 off New Jersey, killing all but three souls on board. The medal reads: "ZRS - 4 RING LAYING GOOD YEAR ZEPPELIN AKRON, OHIO, U.S.A. OCT. 31, 1929."
