Description
This is a fabulous leaded tin oil can with a paper label for "Illuminating Spermoline Cycle Oil" by the Chicago Tip & Tire Company. Spermoline was made of whale oil, and this product was used for fueling lantern-type bicycle lamps. Fortunately by the 1890s, whaling in America was nearing the end of its slow decline.
VINTAGE:Circa 1890s.
SIZE:Approximately 4-7/8" in height and 1-11/16" in width and 2-1/4" in depth.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Leaded tin, paper label.
ATTACHMENT:Funnel cap.
