Description

ARTIFACT:

This is an ashtray from World War II for the United States Navy's USS Searaven (SS-196). The Searaven was launched in 1939 and a nine year career with the Navy. The Searaven was selected for an atomic bomb test which it withstood and then was sunk in the Pacific in 1948.

VINTAGE:

Circa World War II.

SIZE:

Approximately 5-5/16" diameter and 1-1/16" thickness.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Monel or nickel-plated brass with painted lettering.

ITEM NOTES:
