ARTIFACT: This is a World War II USS Bowfin SS-287 submarine celluloid launch button/badge. Bowfin was launched from Portsmouth Navy Yard exactly one year after the Pearl Harbor attacks, December 7, 1942, and had nine successful war patrols. Because of the Bowfin was nicknamed the "Pearl Harbor Avenger", and now rests permanently at port in Pearl Harbor as a museum.

VINTAGE: Circa 1942.

SIZE: About 1-3/4" in diameter.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Celluloid, paper, steel, brass.

ATTACHMENT: Horizontal saftey-style pin.

MARKINGS: None.
