ARTIFACT: WWII United States Navy Model MK2 Fighting Knife by KA-BAR in very early type sheath. This second model served as both a combat weapon and utility knife, an ideal tool in the Pacific Theater with thick jungles. The knife was made primarily by the Union Cutlery Co., featuring a ricasso with their trademark "KA-BAR" (later to become the company name) stamped along with the letters "USN MK2". During wartime Union Cutlery Co. / KA-BAR produced over one million of these models for the US Military. This example features a handle of compressed leather disks, with some black paint remaining, featuring a steel pommel and guard, the blade is made of carbon steel. The sheath is all leather with a snap enclosure for the blade handle.

VINTAGE: Circa WWII.

SIZE: Sheath: 13 - 1/2" x 3"; Knife: 12-1/2"; Handle: 5 -1/2"; Blade: 7"; Guard 2 7/8".

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Leather, carbon steel, paint, steel.

ATTACHMENT: Snap closure on sheath to secure blade, loop for belt attachment.

MARKINGS: "KA-BAR" "USN-MK2" "UNITED CARR" under snap closure on sheath (See photo).
