ARTIFACT:
This is a United States Army Air Forces 328th Bomb Squadron, 93rd Bomb Group, 8th Air Force jacket patch. The 328th was activated January 28, 1942, and earned a Distinguished Unit Citation for a maneuver in Rumania. The patch was made in the United Kingdom, and shows a white whale (aka "e;Moby Dick"e;) wearing an Uncle Sam top hat.
VINTAGE:
Circa World War II.
SIZE:
About 5-1/2" in diameter.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Embroidery on wool, burlap backing.
ATTACHMENT:
To be sewn onto Flight Clothing.
